Elmvale,
Ontario
March 1999 - March 2002
The first house we bought.

This
is our house in Elmvale, Ontario, Canada in 2002.
It is about 1 1/2 hours north of Toronto.
We lived in it from 1999-2002 and then rented it out until we sold it
in 2005.
You can also see our Ford Windstar in this picture.
We love this house.
It was the first time I really had a sense of home.

This picture was taken the day we purchased the house, March 15, 1999.
The car in the driveway is "Misty" our Toyota Corolla.

This is the back of our house.
It has a good size yard but a small deck.

Our living room in 1999.

Our living room in 2002.

Our dining room with a pass-through to the kitchen.
We made this hole in the wall with the help of Mishkin's dad.
It has made a huge difference for the use of the space.
We can socialize with people in the living room while cooking.
It also makes the space feel larger.

This is our kitchen. I would like to have a bigger kitchen
but it is the biggest kitchen we've ever had. The kitchen
has a pass-through to the dining room with an oak ledge.
I love the freezer-on-the-bottom fridge and ceran-top stove.

This is the pantry off of the kitchen.
I used this area as a play area for the kids
with their toys on shelves in the closet.

This is the master bedroom.
Haifa was born here.
The walls are lilac and the ceiling is dark blue with gold stars.

The master bedroom has a semi-ensuite.

This is the kids room. I had painted the white trim
with light blue sparkles. There are glow-in-the dark stars
arranged on the walls like the Milky Way galaxy.

This is the main bathroom.
It is a semi-ensuite into the master bedroom.
I just repainted this bathroom from peach to beige
in March of 2002. I also added a tile baseboard and a new light.

The downstairs has windows as large as the upstairs bedrooms
because it is a raised bungalow. It has two bedrooms which
we use as guest rooms, a large playing area for the kids and
a large office for Mishkin and his computers.

This is our front yard garden in the summer of 1999.
Mishkin and I made a nine-pointed star outlined
with brick and stone. There are marigolds (Mishkin's favorite flower)
in the star and lilies in the front bed.

This is our front yard in the spring of 2000.
We have daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips blooming.

This is my vegetable garden in the backyard. It is very
low-maintenance. The black plastic prevents weeds and
there is an irrigation system to keep the plants watered.
Notice the 2-foot-high weeds which surround my garden in
the empty lots adjacent to our property - this makes gardening
a losing battle. Our grass is a nightmare and sometimes the weeds
look more beautiful than our flower beds.

This is our vegetable garden in the backyard
during a flood in the spring of 1999.
Luckily it didn't ruin our plants.
We had lots of tomatoes, zucchini, swiss chard,
and carrots. Our peas, broccoli, and rhubarb
didn't really work.

This is a view of our backyard.
You can see the elementary school across the street,
my vegetable garden, our fire pit, Justice's sandbox,
and our cedar hedge.
