Verity held up by my thumb. (All the pictures until now have been
of her sleeping. Finally! Eyes open.) June 12, 2004.

Verity in the bath. 2 1/2 months old. She's looking a lot more alert.
She's lovin' this new world. August 12, 2004.

Guess who's who? Justice on the left and Verity on the right.
Justice 3 months old, Verity 2 months old.

What a cute baby! Can you blame us for having three?

6 months old. December 10, 2004.

Verity's famous crawl. She steps with her right foot and crawls
with her left knee and kind of scoots around on her bum.
Justice crawled this way too when he was a baby.

Look at that face. Look at those eyes. She looks a lot like
Aunty Micah in this picture. 6 months old. December 10, 2004.

Verity eating sound cylinders.
What would Maria Montessori think of this?
Is she learning? Yes! Wood tastes good.
P.S. Sound cylinders make great baby rattles.
6 months old. December 19, 2004.

.What are gifts good for? Eating! Yum! Thanks for the tasty pink thing.

I love catching funny expressions like this one. It makes the picture more interesting.
Verity 8 months old. February 11, 2005.

I was trying to take a picture of Verity in this cute pink dress
but she kept crawling toward me wanting to be picked up.
How can I get her to stand away from me for a picture?
What can I use to capture her attention?

Ah! A plant within arms reach!
Dirt is so tempting.

Quick! Take the picture!
8 months old. February 11, 2005.

Notice the pointed finger, ready to poke in the dirt.
You can see her brain working.

Verity's famous one-legged crawl.

The past year has been blissful joy getting to know who Verity is. When I was pregnant, I had a sense of her being gentle and happy and feminine. She is those things. She also has a fabulous sense of humour and loves to make people laugh. She is almost always happy and smiling. She is very easy to take care of. She is extremely intelligent. Two days after she was born, I was training her to nurse properly, I would say to her, “big mouth, use a big mouth” (in her feminine way, she always wanted to suck with small puckered lips). By the third day, when I said, “big mouth”, she would open her mouth nice and wide. She scoots with one hand instead of crawl, like Justice did as a baby. She was standing and furniture surfing at around 8 months and we thought she would be walking well before her first birthday. She has taken as many as five steps but she still prefers to scoot. Her first tooth poked through her gums on the day of her first birthday. Our normally happy, content baby was a little fussy that day because of it.
