Justice Took
Justice
Berteig's Art Work
Three
Years Old
2001-2002

"Banana"
This was the first time Justice drew something that was
really recognizable.
He was doodling on a hotel notepad
in Calgary, Alberta.
For Mishkin and I, it was almost like
a miracle.
It was weird and amazing to see this developmental leap.
July 28, 2001.

This is the first time Justice drew people.
There is Justice, Haifa, Dada (at the computer), Mama,
and our neighbours: Annika, Heather, and their dog Jersey.
September 27, 2001.

"Mama
and Justice"
The circle man in the middle is Justice.
The stick person with a round belly is Mama.
Notice Justice writing Mama but in mirror image.
October 2, 2001.

This
is a Birthday Card Justice made for Baha'u'llah's birthday.
It says: Happy Birthday B
November 11, 2001.

Justice explains: There is a sunset in the middle,
a sun below, a rocket ship on the left,
a guy next to the rocket ship, a shield and sword at the top,
and everything is layered with bone, blood, and skin.
(Justice has been learning about bones, blood and skin in school lately.)

"Dinosaurs"
June 26, 2002.

"David's
Father"
I was amazed by this drawing because he used perspective
(feet larger than head) to illustrate point of view. David's father was
a giant.
April 16, 2002.

When
we read the story again, I realized that Justice's drawing
was a replica of this drawing in the story book.

A
Duplo tree. You can tell how proud Justice
is of this structure by how straight he is standing.

Lego
Tow Truck

Justice
started creating poses with these Lego men.

Nice
little Lego cars Justice designed. And a boat.
