Kindergarten

August 2003 - August 2005

During this time, Haifa started to do workbook pages from the preschool workbook "Everything for Early Learning: Preschool-K".

Haifa learning about squares in the workbook:
Everything for Early Learning: Preschool-K
June 1, 2003.

We also played a card game to teach her the short phonetic sounds of each vowel and then progressed to Phonics Pathways. Haifa has been on the cusp of reading for these two years and it has only been due to my lack of time that she has not started to read earlier. She loves doing workbook pages. She gets frustrated with reading because she sees how easy it is for Justice and doesn't understand why she is not at the same level. I regularly explain to her that Justice is two-and-a-half years older than she is and that it took him a long time to learn how to read and that she is actually learning faster than Justice did. She also began to use the Sonlight Kindergarten Language Arts program along with the Get Ready for the Code phonics workbook but I didn't like it, so we reverted back to The Well-Trained Mind curriculum.

Learning to write the letter "b" in Get Ready for the Code.
September 13, 2004.

She has developed excellent penmanship. She also completed the four workbooks for the Pre-K and K Levels of the Singapore Math EarlyBird Series. She learned how to count and do simple addition and subtraction.
