Recipes

When I was engaged to my husband, my father and sister warned him that I could not cook. Our first year of marriage saw dinner nightmares like: just a salad or scrambled eggs. Our first Thanksgiving dinner turkey wasn't ready until 9:30pm after we had all filled up on appetizers and the dessert (I miscalculated the cooking time).

I became pregnant with our first child three months after we got married - I had to get my act together fast! I started to ask people for recipes, read books, collect recipes. After my second child was born, my health was not at an optimum. I felt tired and achy all the time. My eczema was getting worse. I started to see a naturopath and found out I was allergic to most of the foods I was eating. I was introduced to the fabulous book: Eating Alive by Dr. Jonn Matsen N.D. and entered a whole new world of understanding about what food is and what it means to eat in a healthy way. It was very hard to learn how to cook truly healthy meals. I had to learn how to cook all over again from the very beginning. It was like learning a foreign language. It has taken me four years to really get the hang of it and I still "fall off the wagon" regularly.

Over the years, I have developed a real passion for cooking. I have discovered that it is not that difficult to find really tasty recipes and learn how to cook well. But I think it is a true art to create meals that are both truly healthy and truly delicious.

I have also learned how to express my love for people through cooking. Nothing says "I love you" to your children like freshly baked homemade cookies. I like to show my family how much I love them by cooking delicious food for them - their favourite recipes. But most importantly - healthy fresh food. Once my daughter asked me why I didn't let her eat sugary treats. I said: "Because I love you too much to do that to you." I truly believe that your emotional state while cooking becomes manifest in the food. I like to put love into my food. I like to put thoughts and wishes of health and good life into my cooking. I think people can taste that too.

So here, I share with you the results of my obsessive search for recipes that are not only truly healthy but also really delicious. I hope that they will feed your heart and soul as well as your body.
